Ich muss die PR- bzw. Marketingabteilung von Yamaha erneut loben. Gut, streng genommen sind deren Aktionen nun auch keine revolutionäre Handlung, sie nehmen aber im Vergleich mit der Konkurrenz ganz sicher die Führungsrolle ein – ähnlich wie mit den WM Punkten der MotoGP Saison 2010

Aktuell hat Yamaha in einem neuen Bereich auf der Website die ersten Kolumnen von Valentino Rossi und Jorge Lorenzo veröffentlicht – und dies soll nun eine regelmäßige Institution werden.

Erfreuliche Innovationen wurden aktuell durch die DORNA angekündigt: Die MotoGP soll schon dieses Jahr in HD Qualität aufgenommen und an die TV Stationen verteilt werden.

Leider ist da wohl erstmal kein deutsch- oder englischsprachiger Sender dabei.

Laut MotoGP.com schaut das ganze in Europa so aus, dass nur die folgenden Sender HD übertragen werden:

• RTL Club (Belgium)
• Eurosport (France)
• Sport TV (Portugal)
• Digisport (Hungary)
• Viasat (Scandinavia)

Ausserhalb Europas schaut die Liste so aus:

• Speed TV (USA)
• ESPN (Latin America)
• Globosat (Brazil)
• One HD (Australia)
• StarHub (Singapore)
• Sky (New Zealand)
• Al Jazeera (Middle East)
• ESPN Star Sports (Asia)
• Supersport (Africa)

Und angeblich sollen während der laufenden Saison weitere hinzukommen.

Für die Zukunft sei als nächster Schritt die 3d Übertragung im Gespräch (!!!) – dafür würde ich definitiv sofort Pay-TV anschaffen

Das 3d Thema scheint beim MotoGP Vermarkter auf dem Schirm zu sein, leider ist das natürlich alles noch nicht spruchreif:

In an exciting development, the evolution of the delivery of MotoGP in even more lifelike quality may not stop at HD. With 3D cinematography already being successfully pioneered in the world of cinema, the same technology is now poised to revolutionise sports broadcasting. Last year at the Red Bull US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca and in conjunction with the 3D and digital systems specialists Vince Pace, Dorna Sports carried out a successful trial of the latest HD 3D Fusion camera systems.

For 2010 the Pace team, led by John Bruno who was part of the Visual Effects team involved in the Academy Award winning Avatar film, plans to produce a documentary. This will feature images captured during the MotoGP season, and channels broadcasting in 3D such as ESPN and Sky have already shown interest in delivering such coverage of the sport.

Named the YZR 600 M2, the bikes would be sold in Yamaha’s traditional red and white production livery, much as the old TZ bikes were back in the 1980s. This breaks from the current model where bikes are leased to teams in the MotoGP series.

While this news seems far-fetched, should Yamaha be genuinely interested in producing equipment for the Moto2 class, it would mark a turning point for the series, which so far has only garnered attention from chassis specialists such as Moriwaki, Suter and BQR. These current entries almost exclusively involve building prototype chassis around production engines, typically a Honda CBR600RR powerplant. Interestingly enough however, Honda has not expressed any interest in the new class, and there have even been some statements which would seem to imply that the Japanese giant will not build a bike for the new class.

Nachdem Jorge Lorenzo sich ja dummerweise beim Motocross die Hand verletzt hatte, war die Teilnahme am abschließenden Wintertest in Katar anfangs ungewiss.

(Nebenbei: Wieso um alles in der Welt verbieten die Verträge der MotoGP Fahrer eigentlich das Motocross fahren nicht? Lorenzo ist ja nicht gerade der erste Fahrer, der sich mit dem netten Winter-Hobby die Knochen beschädigt hat…)

Laut einem aktuellen Interview schaut es nun aber wohl doch ganz gut aus – der Spanier wird zar nicht ans Limit gehen können, eine Teilnahme scheint aber halbwegs sicher.

Der Zeitung Motosprint gegenüber äußerte sich Lorenzo so:

Yes, I’m going to the Qatar test, I’ve taken this decision for several reasons, including the need to understand how my hand is doing, but certainly not to set the quickest lap time.

I have thought about forgoing testing and going straight to the first race. But I feel like going to the tests. I’d like to recover some feeling, some confidence, basically I want to get back in touch with my bike. Even if it’s just a couple of laps, I want to see how I feel on the saddle.

Jorge Lorenzo räumte weiter ein, dass die Verletzung natürlich seine Form für die Saisoneröffnung verschlechtert, hofft aber, dass dies keine allzu großen Nachteile für den Titelkampf bedeuten wird:

I think I won’t be well prepared when we get to the first race, I won’t be, and neither will be my bike.

In any case I don’t want to get disheartened. I carry on thinking positive, since the season is long: 18 grands prix are a lot of races, we need to think long term. As for the first race, I will try to limit the damage as much as possible – that would already be a positive thing for me.

Naja, mal sehen – manchmal kommt es ja auf 1-2 Pünktchen an…

Aber die Verletzung scheint der Vizeweltmeister nicht auf die leichte Schulter zu nehmen, zumindest deuten die weiteren Zitate aus dem Interview darauf hin:

This is the first time I’ve hurt myself during the winter preparations, when there’s testing, with the championship nearing. This is a new situation for me. This is an injury that takes a long time to recover from, it needs time and patience.

The incredible thing is that sometimes you have big crashes while going quick and you don’t hurt yourself at all, while this time I hurt myself plenty while going at 30km/h. The real problem is that I crashed on the asphalt. I was in a turn, the bike lost grip and I found myself down all of a sudden. I put down my hand and broke the first metacarpus. It’s the right hand, the one you accelerate with.

From a medical point of view, I can try to get some running in Doha. But I must go slow, and that’s what I will do. I will try to think about everything except lap times. Neither mine nor the others.

Movement of the finger is still limited, and the arm has lost quite a lot of muscle tone. But this is normal, I’m not worried about that.

Hoffen wir, dass Jorge Lorenzo schnell wieder schnell fit ist – ich bin nämlich sehr gespannt, wie er mit der neuen Situation in seiner Box klarkommen wird (Rossi hatte ja darauf bestanden, dass keine Daten mehr zwischen den 2 Konkurrenten ausgetauscht werden müssen – ergo kann Lorenzo nun nicht mehr auf die Abstimmungsarbeit des erfahreneren Rekordweltmeisters Valentino Rossi bauen).

Keiner kann der Dorna vorwerfen, sie würde nicht jeden Tag neu und unvoreingenommen darüber entscheiden, was ihrer Meinung nach gut für die Rennserien ist: nach dem Wechsel vonm den 500ccm Zweitaktern ging man über zu 900ccm Viertaktern. Um diese 225 PS Bikes zu entschärfen, erfolgte der Schwenk auf 800ccm – und nun wird seit einiger Zeit darüber debattiert, auf 1000ccm umzustellen.

Dabei könnte Valentino Rossi der einzige Fahrer sein bzw. werden, der einen Titel in allen vorgenannten Klassen sein eigen nennt. Mal wieder etwas fürs Geschichtsbuch

Sein Freund und Mitstreiter Loris Capirossi hofft sehr darauf, dass die Regeländerung schon vorzeitig stattfindet Gegenüber dem Motosprint Magazin sagte er:

If the 1000cc bikes come back in 2011, and I think this is possible, then I’d be the happiest rider on Earth. It’s 99 per cent certain I’ll still be on the track after this season. I absolutely think so, because I’ll decide to hang up the helmet based on my level of satisfaction. If it’s an enjoyable season, with me fighting, if I’m satisfied with myself, then I may decide to quit.

But after a 2009 so full of trouble, I’m not even thinking about this possibility.

Ob das Hubraumplus in Sachen Leistung und Show einen grossen Unterschied macht, kommt natürlich auf die sonstigen Details des Reglements an. Zuletzt hatte die Dorna immer wieder Ideen zur Kostenreduktion gefordert oder selber eingebracht, daher wird es wohl auf eine ähnliche Leistung wie heute bei den Bikes hinauslaufen. Nebenbei: Mehr an Leistung scheint ohnehin ohne elektronische Fahrhilfen wie Traktionskontrolle etc. kaum zu beherrschen.

Für die Hersteller und die Motorradkäufer könnte der Wechsel aber klasse sein – vielleicht sieht man dann endlich mal “echte” MotoGP Replicas im Geiste der Ducati Desmosedici

Es ist zwar schon ein paar Tage her, dass Ducati mit den Fahrern Casey Stoner und Nicky Hayden die Ducati vorgestellt hat – zwischenzeitlich gibt es also nicht nur das offizielle Pressematerial von Ducati, sondern auch die eine oder andere Reaktion aus Blog und Onlinemedien.

Ich habe im folgenden aus den o.g. Quellen etwas zusammengestellt, damit man sich ein Bild von der neuen MotoGP Maschine machen kann.

Nicky Hayden und Casey Stoner über die 2009er Saison und, wie motomatters.com schreibt,

(…) Today’s episode features a couple of brief interviews with Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner, perhaps the most interesting part of which is Stoner’s discussion of his health. The Australian believes that he has found the key to the mystery illness that destroyed his 2009 season, with lactose intolerance the culprit.
